Paid summer internships: ProX brings hundreds to the KC workforce

As of June 5, 675 students – from 94 different schools – have begun their ProX paid summer internships all across the Kansas City region.

ProX is a regional collaborative that pairs Kansas City students with area businesses for five-week paid summer internships or work projects supervised by a professional mentor. An initiative incubated at the Kauffman Foundation, ProX provides coaching support to every student throughout the application, placement, learning and work experience.

This summer, more than 120 Kansas City-area businesses are participating in ProX. These business partners not only receive access to a diverse, young talent pool, but also student stipends and professional coaching. A ProX employer coordinator is available to all employers, and the student stipend of $1,250 and one hour of academic credit for the successful completion of the program, is taken care of by ProX.

The student stipend is a win-win for everyone – especially for business owners of small or young firms who might not even consider taking on the cost of a paid intern as they work to maintain and grow their businesses. With ProX, employers don’t have to worry about the stipend, only providing a valuable professional experience.

Students commit to 25 hours of professional experiences and learning each week. The summer internships will culminate with a Student Showcase July 13.
